Waders for Alaska

Fly fishermen and float trippers will want to wear chest or waist high waders. I recommend the stocking foot Gortex or neoprene style with felt soled boots. The newer light weight breathable fabrics are fine for the warmer months of June and July. A quality rain coat over chest or waist waders makes you most rain and splash resistant and eliminates the need for rain pants. Bank and boat fishermen can get away with shorter hip boots. If using hip boots, bring comfortable rain pants that will slip over these boots to keep rain and water from running inside. Check for leaks prior to your trip. New boots should be worn and broken in before your trip to avoid hot spots and blisters.
