Sportsman's Guide & Air Service offers unguided non-outfitted Alaska
hunts for trophy caribou, moose, wolf, brown, grizzly and black bear.
All hunts are conducted under the supervision of
Alaska licensed guide outfitter Joe Schuster.

If you know where you want to hunt, an hourly air charter rate may be arranged. Mid-hunt checks and moves are scheduled as you desire.

Equipment List

The items listed below are recommended minimum equipment for non-outfitted, drop-out hunts for caribou, moose, and black bear.

1) Tent - good quality, water and wind resistant, with extras lines and stakes.
2) Sleeping Bag and pad or cot - Temperatures can dip into the 20's in Sept..
3) Cook Stove and fuel.
4) Cooking and eating utensils, garbage bags, paper towels, etc.
5) Collapsible 5 gallon water containers, 1 per person.
6) Food and spices - try to keep weight and bulk to a minimum.
7) Pack frame with bag - you can pack a lot of your gear in this bag.
8) Meat bags and tarp (8X10 with grommets) to cover meat.
9) Salt for animal hides - 5 lb. bags stored in zip lock bags to keep dry.
10) Raingear - quality coat and pants, it can rain hard.
11) Two changes of clothing and extra socks.
12) Hip boots - optional for caribou and bear, a must for moose.
13) Weapons - gun, bow, fishing pole, etc.
14) Optics - spotting scope and binoculars recommended.
15) Camera, film and flashlight.
16) Knife and saw - to remove antlers
17) Personal toiletry items, pills, Band-Aids, toilet paper, etc.
18) Hunting license and tags

Please try to limit your weight to 75 lbs. per person and keep bags and boxes as small as possible for easy packing and transport in light aircraft.

We may have left items off this list that you feel you need in order to make your hunt more enjoyable. Please do not hesitate to bring such items along, but please keep total bulk and weight of your camp to a minimum.

Alaska game regulations allow for a hunter to place a higher valued tag on the trophy who's
tag is of equal or lesser value, (i.e. a caribou tag may be placed on a black bear or wolf).  
You may take wolf or wolverine on any hunt at no extra cost 
providing you purchase the proper tags prior to your hunt.
